Batalla en Broken Lands

Playing in the Broken Lands

Broken Lands: Adventures between Law and Chaos is a dark fantasy roleplaying game where you will play as heroes and antiheroes, each with their own beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses. You will journey through a world shaped by religious strife and the ambitions of the gods, facing secret cults and conspiracies, demons and automatons, forgotten ruins, deceitful pacts, moral dilemmas, and beings from other planes.

Broken Lands takes its inspiration from sword & sorcery authors like Michael Moorcock, Jack Vance and Fritz Leiber. The game explores themes like the struggle against destiny, moral conflicts, the desire for freedom, and the plurality of worlds within the Multiverse. It also incorporates elements of weird science, horror, and even social realism.

Batalla en Broken Lands

A world between Law and Chaos

Two centuries ago, the known world was fractured during the last great war between Law and Chaos. Now, irreconcilable loyalties and religious convictions keep the Broken Lands divided. The gods observe this tragic board from the Higher Worlds, preparing once more to move their human pawns.

After two centuries of cold war, the scent of a new conflict fills the air. Three major powers, once balanced, are poised to redefine their dominance. The Scarlet Lady, servant of Chaos, gathers her sorcerers and demons. In the totalitarian Patriarchy, the forces of orthodox Law rely on their automatons and theurgists.

Across the ocean, the kingdom of Merendrak, ruled by the Dragon Lords, cunningly awaits its moment. Lesser powers like the neutral Temperance or the icy Merenter; other deities such as the Elemental Lords or the Ancestors; and a myriad of mysteries and conspiracies make this historical moment even more unpredictable.

It is a time for heroes. Will you be one of them?

Batalla en Broken Lands

A character-centric game

  • Broken Lands’ game system accommodates a wide range of character backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities, allowing for diverse genres and campaigns.
  • The game defines characters not only by their knowledge and skills, but also by their personality, motivations, passions, beliefs, and religious loyalties.
  • These personal traits have a mechanical impact on gameplay. Broken Lands puts the player character at the center of the story, elevating them to the role of a hero — or anti-hero — marked by destiny.
  • Two meta-currencies assist them in critical moments: Fortune, which increases their chances of success, and Fate, which allows players to influence the plot.

A versatile system

  • The core mechanic of Broken Lands is rolling 1d10 plus a relevant skill against a difficulty typically ranging from 10 to 25. Rolling a 10 "explodes," granting an additional roll.
  • Critical successes and complications help shape the emerging narrative during play.
  • Opposed rolls are common — both participants roll and the higher result wins.
  • The system gives the game a realistic and believable feel. There are no levels, no power gaming, no balanced encounters — just flesh-and-blood people doing their best to face the forces of fate.
  • Built on simple and intuitive principles, the Broken Lands system is enhanced by assistance and preparation rules, specialties, and downtime ventures.
  • The core mechanic is applied across all aspects of gameplay — including magic and combat — ensuring a cohesive and consistent experience.

Combat, magic and faith

Combat

Combat

Combat emphasizes roll efficiency and is designed to be fast-paced and narrative-driven. At the same time, it allows for considerable depth through a wide range of combat maneuvers, as well as armor, complications and critical hits.

Sorcery

Sorcery

Sorcery in Broken Lands is available to all player characters — even those who are not professional spellcasters. The system is built around magical skills and specialties, and Magic Points spent to fuel spells. Each spell is tied to a combination of skills. Sorcerers can develop a distinct magical style, shaped by their affinities and choices.

Faith

Faith

The Broken Lands are a world shaped by religious conflict, and this is reflected in the game system. Adventurers accumulate Fealty Points toward Law, Chaos, or other rival faiths based on their actions. These points can be exchanged for mechanical advantages or divine blessings.
